I'll be frank, I liked the concept behind Fiverr.com.
Just a couple of clicks and a customer can set an order with a freelancer based on a particular set of deliverables.
Sure, but it comes at a price. A significant one.
This is just one the very few freelance platforms in which buyers have been given free reign to abuse, threaten and outright blackmail vendors any way that they like.
Why? Because Fiverr turn a blind eye to it.
In this informative article, I would like to talk about a new bad experience as a vendor on Fiverr, also why I decided to give up on the platform altogether.
How A Normal Order Instantly Turned Into A Hostage Situation
While I have been employing Fiverr myself (off and on ) for a little while, this particular encounter relates to my girlfriend's account, not my own.
(I have been guiding her building a respectable accounts, and the way to go beyond and above with every last purchase. Everything stated is that her doing, I'm just an audience )
In cases like this, she had only gotten another $5 sequence on her emblem gig, which seemed to be just like any other... or so we believed.
The purchase was fulfilled in great time, and my girlfriend had even included a bonus emblem concept in addition to the source file (which is usually part of the costlier bundle ).
The customer"loved" among the concepts and so we proceeded to deliver her the appropriates record sizes, as stated in the final description.
The customer came back requesting a social media kit to go with the logo, something which is clearly you could try this out not available as part of her gig.
In my advice, my buddy decided to provide the further job, although not getting paid any extra for it.
After that, the client responded with even more demands and a few adjustments to the social media files.
At this point, she concurred enough was enough.
Despite every attempt to please this person, they were clearly overstepping their boundaries here.
This is when the customer went from simply overstepping boundaries to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of carrying my girlfriend Fiverr standing hostage.)
While she took some time to contemplate a response and reach to Fiverr service for assistance, the client did eventually go right ahead and leave a 1 star review.
Presumably this was to show her he/she was How To Make Money On Fiverr - Make Your First $1 Online TODAY not kidding.
Soon after, while waiting on Fiverr's answer to the support question, the customer paid an additional $10 for the social media kit.
Of course, the payment was accompanied by yet another danger.
Now, all I wanted to do was go all Liam Neeson and search this individual down so that I could punch them in the face.
But, in the time, I still had hope that Fiverr service would step in and save my girlfriend from that PITA client.
After the response came from Fiverr support, they told that they could The Sorry Tale Of Paid Amazon Reviews Continues On not induce the purchaser to take the purchase.
Alright, that is reasonable enough. (though the purchaser accepted it.)
In addition they suggested drawing up a list for the buyer to demonstrate the work was completed in accordance to the gig requirements.
My girlfriend hauled in her first email the client was trying to extort her for free work outside the agreed conditions, by making a negative inspection if she didn't comply.
Needless to say, it wasn't really about the job, it had been about seeking protection from an abusive client who was intentionally pushing their luck.
Their answer didn't offer either of us any assurance that Fiverr actually knew that, and even at this point we felt like they did not wish to get involved.
At the same time, she also responded to the buyers most recent danger, explaining that she would not continue to work together unless the feedback was changed/removed.
(Again, this will be feedback which was obviously and intentionally made to bully her into supplying work out the agreed conditions )
A fair request by anyones standards, appropriate? Well, apparently not.
Rather than acknowledge what the buyer had done up until this point, Fiverr immediately turned the tables in my girlfriend.
Turns out, she was the only breaking all of the rules.
Since she had asked the customer to modify their feedback, she was no more eligible for any help from Fiverr assistance.
You can imagine how we both felt reading this.
What the purchaser had done and said before her final message was now being swept under the carpet -- as if never happened at all.
Fiverr essentially opted to encourage a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend with a permanent stain in an account she had worked so tough to build up.
And think, there are loads of buyers doing precisely this on Fiverr, knowing they could and will get away with it.
Well, as all of this was happening, I did some investigating to see whether some other sellers went through a similar ordeal with an individual buyer.
Very quickly, I discovered a variety of almost identical cases about the Fiverr forum obsolete years ago. (that's correct, years.)
This is obviously something which's been going on for quite a while and it stems from giving buyers also much power over vendors.
If there's one thing I've heard about Fiverr, it is that customers are ALWAYS more appreciated than freelancers.
Regardless of how much time you put into a project, or how hard you worked on itor maybe how well you handled communication during a dispute, if it actually boils down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even when it is a very clear cut situation in your favor, there is still every chance the client will come out on top. All it takes it one little thing that you"did wrong" according to their own terms of support and EVERYTHING else is ignored
Looking at the evidence, it's obvious to me Fiverr is well aware of what is happening, yet is still eager to sit back and let it happen.
If you're a decision maker at Fiverr and you are reading this, then I implore you to seriously reevaluate your current support processes for freelancers.
It is not right that somebody can set all the time and effort in to building up an account and over-delivering at every possible chance, only to be shot down from the very people that you rely on to safeguard you.
Look, I don't want to abandon Fiverr. I don't need to be telling folks to avoid your system.
But after everything that's happened, you have not left me any decision.
Until something is done to guard freelancers from using this sort of abuse, I will continue to propagate this post and do anything I could to stop others from falling victim to a one-sided support staff.
The second you truly do something about this and provide freelancers a way to fight , I'll be happy to update the post.
